Alpha Theta Center
Serve, protect, and enhance your gift of consciousness.
We know the power of Neuromodulation methods to transform, change, and improve the quality of human life. With combined knowledge from scientific literature, collaborations with other researchers and thousands of hours of direct clinical experience, we feel privileged to be able to guide our clients and witness their amazing transformations. Alpha Theta Center is honored to work with clients in order to help them achieve their mental and emotional goals. We are dedicated to helping clients realize their full potential and strive for high standards of well-being and livelihood. Alpha Theta Center provides a safe and quiet space that values compassion, integrity and personal growth.
At Alpha Theta Center, we offer customized neurofeedback training programs based on your personal QEEG brain mapping data. Neurofeedback can be used to improve conditions such as:
- Sleep Problems (Insomnia)
- Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Autism / Asperger Spectrum disorders
- Headaches / Migraines
- ADD / ADHD
- Substance Abuse
- Memory Problems
- learning Problems
- Lack of Focus
It can also be applied for conditions such as:
- Slowing Cognitive Decline (Sometimes associated with aging process)
- Enhanced Cognitive Performance (Improved mental functioning / mental endurance for executives, CEO’s, Military officers, Attorneys, Entrepreneurs)
- Enhance Athletic Training Increased endurance, mental focus, more accurate unconscious body / mind decision process)
- Higher Competitive Shooting Scores
- Increased Sniper First Round Hits (reduced eye fatigue, finer muscle control).
- Increased Poker Winnings
- Improved Golf Game
- Enhanced Sexual functioning (men and women experience this benefit differently)
We use different forms of Neurofeedback as well QEEG Analysis and normative brain mapping to train your brain because these methods are backed by scientific research that show effectiveness. However, it is in the manner, the process by which Neurofeedback works that earns our passion, for it does more than ease certain symptoms. We have worked with intractable disorders such as PTSD, the debilitating pain of Fibromyalgia, and the immutable cognitive and emotional deficits associated with traumatic brain injury – and it is the profound personal changes that captures our imagination. There is often a re-emergence, a re-connection of our humanity, a renewal of “us.” Simply put, Neurofeedback, like antibiotics, is one of the most powerful clinical tools for healing and transformation we have ever seen. It relieves human suffering, but in its application the human spirit transforms, grows, making brighter the spark of consciousness.
Dr. Michael Villanueva
Dr. Villanueva has worked as a Clinical Psychologist for over 15 years. As a reserve officer in the United States Army Medical Service Corps, he holds the rank of Major. He was deployed from 2011- 2012 to a FOB (forward operating base) in Afghanistan as a combat psychologist.
Dr. Villanueva started his career at the University of New Mexico as an assistant research professor, successfully obtaining over 5 million dollars in grant funding from National Institute of Health (NIH) to study PTSD and substance abuse, first among Hopi Pueblo Vietnam veterans, then later among other Pueblo tribes. He left New Mexico to work with US Marines and Navy personnel, first at Twentynine Palms Naval Hospital, then later at Camp Pendleton, California where he first learned about Neurofeedback and its ability to effect permanent, regulatory change in his patients’ central nervous system. Initially trained in the Othmer Method using Infralow Neurofeedback and Alpha Theta training, Dr. Villanueva was the first to introduce Infralow Neurofeedback to the Fort Hood Warrior Reset treatment center in Texas. In 2011, Dr. Villanueva presented Neurofeedback research at the Navy Combat Operational Stress Conference, showing highly significant PTSD stress symptom reductions on Marines from Camp Pendleton.
In 2011, having demonstrated clinical efficacy of Neurofeedback through multivariate data analysis, Dr. Villanueva volunteered for a deployment to Afghanistan as a US Army Combat Psychologist. He was the first deployed psychologist ever to use Neurofeedback and Alpha Theta synchrony training within a Combat Stress Control Clinic. He and his staff achieved major reductions in the insomnia and anger that are associated with high tempo military operational stress. With many young combat soldiers obtaining significant relief from PTSD and TBI symptoms, and, later during the deployment, as word spread among Soldiers of Neurofeedback’s effectiveness, Dr. Villanueva would use induced Alpha Theta states to enhance peak performance for officers, scaffolding unsuspected mental abilities into new dimensions.
Since returning from Afghanistan he has widened his initial reliance on Infralow Neurofeedback to include 19 channel QEEG Mapping, LORETA Z score neurofeedback, Real Time Z score training using pEMF Neurofield, and Heart Rate Variability training.
